Joseph Kernan nominated to be Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence
On July 19, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats issued a statement on the president’s nomination of retired Vice Admiral Joseph Kernan to be Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.
I am very pleased that President Trump has nominated retired Vice Admiral Joseph Kernan to be Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. I can think of no stronger candidate to run the Defense intelligence enterprise.
Admiral Kernan’s lifetime of service speaks for itself. The Intelligence Community relies on our close partnership with the Department of Defense, including USDI and—in particular—the Special Warfare community. With the vast array of threats facing our country and our allies, there is no better time to have a retired Navy SEAL on our national security leadership team.
I look forward to welcoming Admiral Kernan and am eager to work with him in defense of our nation.
Daniel R. Coats, Director of National Intelligence
