DNI Coats issues statement on Senate confirmation of Mike Pompeo as secretary of state

On April 26, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats issued the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Mike Pompeo as secretary of state.
I am pleased the Senate voted today to confirm the nomination of Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State.
The United States and our allies face a world with a diverse array of threats, and America’s diplomats and spies contribute to our safety in unique, complementary ways. Mike loved his job as CIA Director and championed the workforce. I am confident he will do the same for our diplomats.
In our near-daily Oval Office sessions with President Trump, Mike provided his rich perspective. He will continue to do so as a policymaker. His experience in the Intelligence Community no doubt will shape his approach as Secretary of State.
I look forward to working with Mike in his new role, and I thank him for his Intelligence Community service. I hope to welcome nominee Gina Haspel as CIA Director very soon.
Daniel R. Coats, Director of National Intelligence
