DISA posts RFI for rapid cloud migration
On August 29, the Defense Information Systems Agency posted a request for information on MilCloud2 Rapid Cloud Migration (Solicitation Number: 841813722). Responses are due by 1:00 p.m. Eastern on September 10.
Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Operations Center (OC) is seeking information from industry to assist with the development and planning of a potential new requirement, MilCloud2 Rapid Cloud Migration.
The Government is in the process of conducting market research to assist the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in understanding the capabilities available in the market place relevant to automated Cloud Migration techniques.
Migration to Cloud Services is a growing trend in the commercial industry to reduce cost and improve time to provisioning and elasticity of resources. The current migration strategy includes manual cloning and conversion of server images, which are then provisioned, into the new Cloud environment, or provisioning, building and configuring applications on virtual servers from scratch.
This RFI seeks migration solutions that can accurately duplicate the suite of servers used with an application from their current environment into a cloud environment built on Apache CloudStack technology and KVM hypervisor. The scope of duplication includes all applications used with the system, configuration of network and network security controls when proper APIs are exposed, and identification of interactions within the application system and to external systems when needed network traffic is made available for analysis. Options here can include use of vendor-provided tools or analytic capabilities if packet captures or other network monitoring information, as prescribed by the vendor, is provided.
Origin environments are not yet fully identified but may include traditional data center hosting or Cloud environment, either public or private. Multiple platform types and several operating systems to include various flavors of UNIX, Linux and Windows are in use. Operating systems may also include outdated legacy versions. Operating environments may be physical or virtual MilCloud2 Rapid Cloud Migration 2 using many different hypervisors. Several Software Defined Networking and Cloud Operating Systems may also be in use.
