CNAS Senior Fellow Ely Ratner named Deputy National Security Advisor to the Vice President
Center for a New American Security (CNAS) Senior Fellow and Asia Security Program Director Dr. Ely Ratner has been named Deputy National Security Advisor to Vice President Joe Biden, CNAS announced July 20. In the position, he will work with National Security Advisor to Vice President Biden and CNAS alum Dr. Colin Kahl. Ratner has served at CNAS since 2012.
“We are pleased that the Administration has called on such a talented, innovative, and capable security policy professional as Ely,” said CNAS CEO Michèle Flournoy.
“Ely has been a true thought leader here at CNAS, and we will miss him greatly. But his departure underscores a key part of the CNAS mission: to prepare future national security leaders for public service. We congratulate him on his appointment.”
CNAS Chairman of the Board of Directors Kurt Campbell echoed Flournoy’s sentiment. “I’ve known Ely for years, and he has proven himself intelligent and effective time and time again. While CNAS will miss Ely, I am grateful to know Ely will be working on the most important national security issues.”
Dr. Ratner joins a long line of former CNAS leaders who have entered key policy-making positions in the U.S. government.
