SOSi subsidiary launches social media analysis tool
EXOVERA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reston, VA-based SOS International LLC (SOSi), announced on June 1 that it has been awarded a three-year contract by the U.S. State Department to monitor and analyze traditional and social media in support of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
SOSi established EXOVERA in 2012 as a commercial, cloud-based service that currently monitors 350,000 news and social media sites representing more than one million information sources around the world. Staffed with a large team of multilingual analysts, EXOVERA operates a news desk and customer support center 24 hours-per-day, 365 days-per-year.
EXOVERA began as part of a program SOSi established in 2006 under a $70 million competitive contract with the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM). SOSi was hired by STRATCOM to establish an around-the-clock global media watch center in support of Department of Defense operations. At the height of the program, SOSi had more than 100 full-time, dedicated employees and analyzed media trends in more than 70 countries worldwide. The company developed new technologies used to mine media sources, parse the information for human analysis, and distribute a variety of analytical products to more than 10,000 end-users across the federal government.
In 2012, EXOVERA spun off into a separate self-funded commercial enterprise, focused on high-end data analytics. The company first focused on Central Asia and the Middle East and targeted commercial clients as well as the U.S. government.
“EXOVERA offers innovative new tools to facilitate the government’s lawful ability to monitor and analyze social media trends,” said EXOVERA President Jeremy Davis. “We help clients anticipate and understand events before, during and after they occur. Using our EV3 platform, clients receive an early tripwire for bellwether events, real-time alerts and analysis through a sophisticated set of web-based visualization tools.”
