Optex Systems buys Applied Optics Center from L-3
On November 4, Richardson, TX-based Optex Systems Holdings, Inc. reported that it has acquired Applied Optics Center (AOC) from L-3 Communications for an undisclosed amount.
AOC is the largest manufacturer of laser protection filters and related products for the U.S. Army. Optex Systems develops optical sighting systems and assemblies, mainly for DoD.
Before joining Optex, AOC was a division of L-3’s warrior systems sector, part of the electronics systems business unit.
Optex Chairman Merrick Okamoto said, “Our corporate focus continues to be on merger and acquisition opportunities to take advantage of our underutilized capacity and low cost manufacturing during this cycle of lower defense spending. We are excited this acquisition will provide new growth opportunities and a new Commercial Optical Coating vertical which will reduce our dependence on defense related contracts.”
