OGSystems acquires Portland’s Urban Robotics

OGS 112OGSystems (OGS), a Chantilly, VA-based leader in technology innovation for the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC), announced on March 5 its acquisition of Urban Robotics, a Portland, OR -based leader in advanced airborne military Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) applications. With cluster computing and algorithms to solve complex 2D and 3D geospatial problems, Urban Robotics provides solutions to create high-resolution 3D models for Special Operations mission planning.

The acquisition of Urban Robotics will allow both companies to leverage each other’s technical development capabilities with advanced technology exploration through VIPER Labs. These next-generation solutions will be available to OGS’ IC, DoD and commercial customers, providing continued disruption and innovation through immersive engineering and agile development techniques for ISR remote sensing software, hardware and professional services.

“The Urban Robotics acquisition complements OGS by matching our entrepreneurial and idea-driven culture and furthering our reputation for geospatial engineering innovation,” said Omar Balkissoon, CEO of OGSystems. “OGS is at the forefront of airborne data collection, and the incredibly detailed and immersive 3D point clouds Urban Robotics creates will help us continue to push the envelope in geospatial data fusion.”

OGS’ objective is to build on its already successful idea-to-reality VIPER Labs platform, fostering innovation by leveraging current and future Urban Robotics technical expertise, projects and ideas. Combined, both companies will cross-pollinate emerging customer needs with software mash-ups, enabling a new customer experience.

“Urban Robotics has found a true partner for growth with OGS,” said Geoff Peters, CEO of Urban Robotics. “Their technology focus, strong cultural and own-the-outcome attitude provides a natural fit.”

Urban Robotics will remain in Portland while leveraging OGS’ VIPER Labs locations across the country for continued innovation.
