Northrop Grumman names Tom Jones VP, GM of Advanced Concepts & Technologies
Northrop Grumman Corporation, based in Falls Church, VA, announced on January 15 that it has named Thomas Jones, vice president and general manager, Advanced Concepts & Technologies (AC&T), for the company’s Electronic Systems sector, effective immediately.
In this new position, Jones will have executive responsibility for all AC&T strategic planning, activities and operations, including advanced architectures and advanced technologies. He will also oversee the shaping of customer research and development, advanced-research relationships with independent laboratories and universities, management of intellectual property and technology partnerships, foundry development, enterprise collaboration for continuous innovation and ensuring the incubation of advanced concepts. Jones will report to Gloria A. Flach, corporate vice president and president, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems.
Jones joined the company in 2011 as vice president, Undersea Systems. In that position, he was responsible for realigning the business unit’s portfolio to address new and emerging growth markets. He also served on the corporate program management council and the executive committee of the company’s unmanned systems steering group.
Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, he held management and executive positions at other aerospace and defense companies, with responsibility for a variety of high technology undersea systems solutions for government and commercial customers.
Jones earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Kansas State University. He also completed doctoral-level coursework in electrical engineering at the University of Southern California and a number of executive-education courses at Harvard University Business School. He is a member of the National Defense Industrial Association’s (NDIA) undersea warfare executive board.
