Voyager Technologies makes key executive appointments

On February 18, Voyager Technologies announced that it has promoted Matt Magaña to president of defense and national security and Marshall Smith to president of space solutions. Voyager’s defense and national security segment provides mission-ready defense systems across domains and its space solutions segment specializes in reliable, high-performance systems and services for space missions.

“We’re at an important crossroads in the future of America’s leadership in defense and exploration innovation,” said Matt Kuta, president of Voyager. “With the promotions of Matt and Marshall, we believe we have the right leaders in place to propel the company to new heights and progress our nation’s influence from ground to space.”

Magaña joined the company in October 2024. He previously served as the president and CEO of Blue Canyon Technologies, where he led the rapid production of high-rate commercial and defense spacecraft, driving innovation in system integration. Prior to Blue Canyon, he held multiple executive roles at Raytheon, overseeing billion-dollar portfolios in space-based ISR, electronic warfare, space control, and missile defense, advancing cutting-edge capabilities to strengthen national security. He also led strategic mergers and acquisitions, expanding Raytheon’s defense technology footprint.

Smith joined Voyager in 2021 and has held several roles, most recently serving as Voyager’s chief technology officer. He is now responsible for delivering cutting-edge space and science solutions, exploration infrastructure and advanced systems for the company’s global customer base. Prior to joining Voyager, he served as NASA’s deputy associate administrator for Systems Engineering, director for Human Exploration and director for Cross-Program Systems Engineering. Smith led several initiatives that integrated innovative commercial partnerships into NASA’s deep-space exploration programs, including the Human Landing System and more.

Both leaders bring a proven track record of innovation, execution and mission-driven leadership that will propel the company into its next era of growth. We believe Voyager is positioned to be a leader in the industry, delivering transformative space and defense solutions across the U.S. government and global markets.
