Northrop Grumman delivers 500th LITENING G4 Advanced Targeting and C4ISR system
Northrop Grumman recently delivered the 500th AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING G4 targeting pod to the United States military, marking an important milestone as forces worldwide continue to transition their LITENING pods to G4 configuration, the Falls Church, VA-based company announced June 16.
LITENING G4 has become the fourth generation targeting and ISR pod of choice for the world’s air forces. With its advanced 1K sensors, laser imaging and advanced image processing, LITENING G4 provides aircrew and ground forces with unequaled combat ID, range recognition and situational awareness.
“LITENING’s unique design has allowed us to rapidly and affordably insert the latest technologies, keeping the warfighter and aircraft highly relevant in today’s complex and evolving scenarios,” said Jim Mocarski, vice president, Airborne Tactical Sensors business unit, Northrop Grumman. “The next generation of LITENING, already in development, will provide significant capability improvements and continue to give our customers an unfair advantage in the fight.”
The LITENING G4 Advanced Targeting Pod delivers the latest advancements in sensor, laser imaging and data link technology. LITENING’s technologies include digital, high definition video, 1K forward-looking infrared and charge-coupled device sensors, short wave infrared laser imaging, color symbology, tracker improvements and enhanced zoom. These advancements deliver more accurate target identification and location at longer ranges than previous generations of LITENING targeting pods while reducing pilot workload.
