MDA signs contracts to provide space-based monitoring for oil exploration and production

MDA MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., a global communications and information company, has announced that it has been awarded multiple contracts by undisclosed customers for space-based monitoring services using RADARSAT-2 to support oil exploration and production activities.

MDA’s wide-area monitoring solutions for the oil industry are used to detect and track the movement of oil on water through all weather conditions, 24 hours a day.

The level of accuracy and timeliness provided by the RADARSAT-2 satellite supports exploration for new offshore wells, increases operational awareness for off-shore production facilities, and enables more effective response operations in the event of an oil spill.

MDA’s business is focused on markets and customers with strong repeat business potential, primarily in the communications sector and the surveillance and intelligence sector. In addition, the company conducts a significant amount of advanced technology development. MDA’s established global customer base is served by more than 4,800 employees operating from 11 locations in the United States, Canada, and internationally.
