GDIT lands more than $2B in Digital Accelerator contracts in 2023
On December 19, Falls Church, VA-based General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) announced that its Digital Accelerator solutions portfolio achieved strong growth in its first year. The company won more than $2 billion in contracts in 2023 leveraging these new solutions.
GDIT unveiled a new technology investment strategy in early 2023 to advance government missions and accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies. The strategy included investments in eight Digital Accelerators: zero trust, artificial intelligence (AI) for mission applications, AI for IT operations, hybrid multi-cloud, software factory, 5G, defensive cyber and post-quantum cryptography.
These Digital Accelerators are integrated commercial technologies that have been cyber-hardened and are customizable for an agency’s specific mission. In many cases, agencies are integrating multiple Digital Accelerators to meet their evolving mission and technology demands. The more than $2 billion total in new business and recompete contract awards represent both firm backlog and estimated contract value. These include a $712 million contract to integrate 5G, zero trust and AI to modernize a homeland security agency’s IT infrastructure; a $450 million award to employ AI and zero trust to upgrade one of the largest and most complex financial accounting systems in the federal government; and an $18 million other transaction authority contract to leverage zero trust, AI and software factory to support the Space Force.
“Given the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, increased cyber threats and federal mandates such as the recent AI Executive Order, agencies want to innovate faster to advance their missions,” said Amy Gilliland, GDIT’s president. “Over the last two years, we have made investments in our Digital Consulting practice, R&D and emerging technologies to accelerate development of solutions for our customers. These contract awards and growth in areas such as AI and cyber demonstrate that our strategy is paying off.”
As part of GDIT’s broader investment strategy, the company has also expanded its network of research and development labs around the country to test new technologies, collaborate with partners and develop prototypes for government missions. This includes a new Emerge Innovation Center at the company’s headquarters, a 5G lab and a new Emerge Aviation Futures Lab. This investment has enabled the development of innovative solutions such as GDIT Raven – a mobile command center with 5G and AI capabilities that can collect mission-critical information at the tactical edge, and the first ever zero trust at the edge demonstration at the recent Talisman Sabre military exercise in Australia. It has also resulted in awards in emerging technology areas such as a quantum computing consulting contract for the intelligence community.
