Dan Smoot becomes CEO of Maxar Intelligence

On October 30, Westminster, CO-based Maxar Intelligence, a provider of secure, precise, geospatial intelligence, announced the appointment of Dan Smoot as CEO, effective November 6, 2023, completing an exciting phase of investment in the business’ senior leadership talent. Daniel Jablonsky, who has been serving as interim CEO of Maxar Intelligence, will transition to the board of directors.

Smoot is an accomplished technology executive with over 30 years of management experience at some of the world’s most successful software and IT companies, including senior executive positions at Salesforce, Cisco and VMWare. Most recently, he served as CEO of Riverbed Technology, where he led the IT company’s transformation from a hardware provider to a software-focused business that today serves national security agencies and 95% of the Fortune 100.

“Dan Smoot is a proven leader who brings a commercial approach to delivering innovative technology solutions for national security and other government missions, and his relentless focus on execution and operational excellence makes him well-suited to lead Maxar Intelligence in the next phase of its growth,” said Bob Hitt, chair of Maxar Intelligence Board of Directors.

“It’s a privilege to serve as CEO of Maxar Intelligence, and I’m looking forward to joining the company at this critical stage of its growth,” said Smoot. “Over my career, I’ve worked closely with national security and commercial customers to develop unique technology solutions that solve their biggest challenges and drive mission success. It is an exciting time for the Maxar Intelligence team to deliver similar impact through innovative digital solutions that help customers unlock new value from the industry’s most advanced Earth intelligence data.”

Smoot will lead a new Maxar Intelligence management team with extensive experience in the national security, space and technology sectors. New additions to the team in recent months include:

  • Mike Mohn, chief financial officer, who has held senior roles at Cisco and Raytheon.
  • Susanne Hake, general manager, U.S. government, who joins after a decade at Palantir Technologies.
  • Anders Linder, general manager, international government, who oversaw key business units at Beyond Gravity and Saab.
  • Scott Herman, chief product officer, who brings three decades of remote sensing product development experience at Cognitive Space, Blacksky and DigitalGlobe.
  • Anat Gan Eden, chief human resources officer, who transformed and scaled the human resources function at Verra Mobility and who has held senior HR roles at Toms Shoes and DIRECTV.
  • Will Cocos, chief transformation officer, who led transformation and value creation initiatives at Comar and Boston Consulting Group.

These leaders are joined by longtime Maxar executives Jeff Robertson, chief operations officer; Randy Rehovich, general manager, U.S. government services; Paul Granito, general manager, enterprise; Todd Ham, chief technology officer (interim); and Laurie Korneffel, general counsel.

“We have carefully selected this senior leadership team to grow Maxar’s position as the world leader in secure, precise geospatial intelligence with new mission-focused solutions and digital platforms that help customers generate more insights from our best-in-class data, faster,” said Shonnel Malani, managing partner and global head of Advent International’s aerospace and defense team. “We are excited to back this talented group of individuals led by Dan and look forward to the next chapter of Maxar’s growth story. We’d also like to thank Daniel Jablonsky for his leadership throughout his tenure as CEO of Maxar Technologies.”
