Alion awarded $49M contract to support Navy’s ISR systems and development

In combat, warfighters rely on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems for situational awareness, tactical communications and target tracking. To support the need for more advanced ISR capabilities, Alion Science and Technology, a McLean, VA-based engineering, technology and operational solutions company, announced on September 23 that it has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract valued at $49 million by the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane for its Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems Division (SRSD).

Alion will provide rapid design, engineering, fabrication and testing of ISR components and systems that have met Technology Readiness Level 6 maturity, a Department of Defense standard of how ready a technology is for testing or use. This includes components and systems in four technology areas: processing exploitation and dissemination (PED), mobile signals intelligence (SIGINT), sensitive site exploitation and persistent surveillance systems.

“We are dedicated to NSWC Crane’s implementation of ISR systems that better equip the Navy for tomorrow’s battle,” said Chris Amos, Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Technology Solutions Group. “Under this contract, we can help enhance systems, build software-defined radios and develop effective sensors to support the effort. We’ll also produce models and short runs of actual products in each of the technology areas, giving warfighters the ability to evaluate working components and systems, quickly and cost-effectively.”
