On August 25, the Defense Intelligence Agency’s (DIA) Missile and Space Intelligence Center (MSIC) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the Materiel Exploitation Center (MEC) at the MSIC Campus in Huntsville, Alabama.
The ceremony marks the completion of the Phase I MEC project, which is part of the two-phased Advanced Analysis Complex construction effort and a critical milestone in the Department of War’s mission to strengthen the nation’s current and future global space and missile defense capabilities. DIA Deputy Director Sharon Rose and MSIC Chief Steven Rush hosted the ceremony, with attendance from Alabama Rep. Dale Strong, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas, among other key supporters.
The Phase I MEC project, an effort to enhance capabilities and infrastructure at MSIC’s Richard C. Shelby Center for Missile Intelligence, will provide DIA and its partners with hardware exploitation, laboratory space, a vehicle maintenance facility, HUB for enterprise logistics management and a central energy plant.
The MSIC provides warfighters, weapons developers and policymakers with scientific and technical intelligence exploitation and assessments of foreign weapons systems to protect warfighters, inform future acquisition decisions, and provide decision advantage to national policy makers. This new facility will deliver a world-class exploitation facility to defeat complex future threat systems, and it showcases DIA’s commitment to reestablishing deterrence and addressing complex strategic competition challenges.
