On June 3, GRVTY announced that it has added retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Tom James, former deputy commander of U.S. Space Command, to its advisory board. James’ 43 years of service and expertise in space operations, orbital warfare, and joint warfighting will help shape the company’s strategy as it scales capabilities across the most contested domains of modern conflict, GRVTY said.
“Tom is one of the foremost strategic minds our nation has produced in space operations, and his perspective on orbital warfare, joint integration, and future force requirements will sharpen everything we do,” said Katie Selbe, CEO of GRVTY. “From shaping space policy at the Pentagon to leading at U.S. Space Command, he brings the kind of operational depth and strategic vision that aligns directly with GRVTY’s mission to accelerate national security.”
James served in a wide range of leadership roles across a 43-year career, culminating as deputy commander of U.S. Space Command, where he helped lead the integration of space capabilities across the Joint and Combined force, the protection of space-based assets on Earth and in orbit, and the defense of the Joint Force from space-enabled attack.
A 25-year Army space operations officer, he is recognized as one of the military’s top strategic experts in planning and executing space operations across the full spectrum of conflict, with orbital warfare as a signature focus. He also served in space policy roles at the Pentagon for the Department of War and as deputy of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s Future Warfare Center, leading capability and doctrine development for future space warfare.
Prior to becoming a space operations officer, James served as both an enlisted and an officer in medical, special operations, and aviation units, and later held leadership and planning positions at the Joint Task Force, U.S. Army Corps, and Component level across Army, Air Force, Special Operations, and Joint Commands.
