Octo acquires Volant
Reston, VA-based Octo announced on July 13 its acquisition of Volant Associates, a technology integrator and software development company at the fore of enterprise-scale IT solutions for the Defense Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission. Headquartered in Chantilly, VA, Volant was founded in 2008 and enables data sharing, advanced analytics, and enhanced mission capability across the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD).
With major prime contracts supporting the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and other IC agencies, Volant boasts experience driving modern, cloud-native, DevSecOps, and Data solutions in support of DoD enterprise data architectures and interoperability initiatives, including the Defense Intelligence Information Enterprise (DI2E) Common Data Fabric program. Volant brings more than 85 highly cleared and technical employees, a culture of service, and a unique corporate infrastructure that complement Octo’s growing commitment to the IC and DoD.
Volant prides itself in rapid delivery, security, and unwavering commitment to mission success, all of which strongly appealed to Octo’s leadership. Octo’s CEO Mehul Sanghani said, “For a number of years we have admired the highly differentiated, technically complex, and impactful work performed by Volant. Through our teaming relationships that long predate this transaction, we have witnessed the impact of Volant’s technical expertise on our Intelligence Community and other related customers. Most importantly, Volant’s efforts have improved the national security community’s ability to quickly deliver tools, data, and mission effectiveness to real end users. We are excited to have formalized the relationship with Volant, which demonstrates our dedication to serving our customers whose missions directly impact our nation.”
Volant Associates’ CEO Eric Mohney said, “Octo has a fantastic reputation for putting their clients’ mission ahead of all else and bringing to bear the best solutions and practices available in the commercial and government IT space while taking great care of their employees. That reputation resonated with Volant, and we feel very well aligned culturally. We also recognized that, while Volant brings a unique focus on enterprise-scale tools and services for the Defense ISR and broader IC, the capabilities we have developed have a much larger market and applicability across a range of missions. With Octo’s wider reach, resources, and talent base we expect to be able to grow into those additional markets and expand our own capabilities. It’s an exciting time, and we are thrilled to be part of the Octo family.”
Octo’s Sam Stollar, general manager, IC and Air Force, said, “Volant and Octo have a similar client base and serve complementary missions within the community. We already know each other and have built a mutual respect for each other’s work through side-by-side customer delivery. We have been consistently impressed by the caliber of the Volant leadership team and technical staff, as well as the immediate opportunities enabled by this coming together of like businesses. We look forward to excellent things to come for our employees and our customers.”
Volant’s leadership will remain with the company and will head a new division within Octo’s IC and Air Force Business Unit, driving continued growth and customer success at DIA and NRO.
