Scott Smith named assistant director of FBI cyber division
FBI Director James Comey has named Scott Smith as the assistant director for the Cyber Division, FBI announced October 19. Smith most recently served as a deputy assistant director in the Human Resources Division at FBI Headquarters.
Smith entered on duty with the FBI in 1996. He was first assigned to the Cleveland Division, where he investigated violent crimes and general criminal matters and served as a member of the Safe Streets Task Force targeting local and Mexican drug trafficking organizations.
Smith deployed to Iraq in 2005 and led a contingent of special agents, analysts, and language specialists in support of the FBI’s counterterrorism program.
Throughout his career, Smith has held leadership positions in the Counterterrorism Division; the Cleveland Division’s Toledo, Sandusky, and Lima Resident Agencies; as the deputy on-scene commander in Iraq in 2008; as an assistant special agent in charge in the Dallas Division; as a chief in the Human Resources Division; and as the special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh Division.
