Quantum Space acquires Phase Four’s multimode propulsion assets

Quantum Space announced on September 22 the acquisition of Phase Four’s multimode propulsion assets, a breakthrough technology that allows a single system to operate in both chemical (high thrust) and electric (high efficiency) modes. This strategic acquisition, which also includes a state-of-the-art integration and test facility in Los Angeles, strengthens Quantum Space’s ability to deliver highly maneuverable, persistent, and cost-efficient platforms for its national security, civil, and commercial customers, enabling missions from low-Earth orbit (LEO) to geostationary orbit (GEO) and cislunar space.

“Acquiring Phase Four’s multimode propulsion assets marks a major inflection point for Quantum Space,” said Kerry Wisnosky, CEO of Quantum Space. “It gives us the agility, resilience, and efficiency required to serve the most demanding national security missions, support civil science objectives, and meet commercial customers where they are headed. Mission areas such as Golden Dome, maneuverable GEO, and life extension, all will benefit—this is about providing unmatched space mobility.”

Phase Four’s multimode capability expands Rangers rapid maneuvering for responsive missions with efficient station-keeping and phasing and simplifies refueling by using a single propellant. This added agility supports faster response times, more versatile mission profiles, and longer-duration presence in orbit, capabilities that are increasingly critical for defense, scientific exploration, and commercial infrastructure.

“Phase Four has always set out to deliver propulsion systems that bridge the gap between traditional chemical performance and electric efficiency with our innovative radio frequency propulsion technology,” said Steve Kiser, CEO of Phase Four. “Partnering with Quantum Space ensures that this technology scales and finds its way into the missions that matter most—defense, science, commercial infrastructure. I’m proud of what the Phase Four team built, and Quantum Space is the right partner to get the multimode capability on orbit.”
