Proteus Space announces investment from SAIC
On October 22, Proteus Space announced a major investment from SAIC. In addition to the investment, Proteus and SAIC have entered a multiyear strategic partnership to enhance and scale the deployment of Proteus’ MERCURY platform. MERCURY is an AI-powered, Industry 4.0 digital/physical twin system that autonomously designs custom satellite buses tailored to specific payloads, thousands of times faster than humans.
MERCURY leverages advanced technology to optimize satellite design, significantly reducing the time and cost associated with traditional methods. By automating the design process, MERCURY also ensures precision and accuracy, minimizing errors and rework. This results in a more efficient production cycle and faster deployment of satellites, ultimately providing customers with a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving space industry.
MERCURY rapidly iterates and adapts to changing requirements and developmental payload SWaPs, creating unprecedented flexibility and responsiveness, making it an invaluable tool for both government and commercial customer seeking to get payloads to space faster, according to the company.
“We’re excited to collaborate with SAIC, a leader in digital engineering and technology integration,” said David Kervin, CEO and co-founder of Proteus Space. “This partnership will accelerate our ability to deliver MERCURY™ to a broader range of government customers, offering a transformative solution for satellite design and production.”
The collaboration aims to develop high-fidelity, autonomous digital modeling capabilities for space systems, enabling rapid design, assembly, and deployment of custom satellite buses.
“Our investment in Proteus Space is driven by their visionary technology, which enhances SAIC’s impactful digital engineering services,” said Lauren Knausenberger, chief innovation officer at SAIC. “We have entered into this innovative partnership to expedite the development of next-generation space solutions for our government clients and the commercial sector.”
“SAIC is committed to fostering advancements in the space domain and we believe the customized capability of Proteus’ MERCURY™ platform to reduce the time from satellite design to launch will serve the unique needs of our customers,” said David Ray, executive vice president of SAIC’s Space and Intelligence Business Group.
