Precise Systems acquires Ternion

On August 5, Precise Systems, Inc., a portfolio company of Bluestone Investment Partners, announced that it has acquired Ternion Corporation, a Huntsville, Alabama-based developer of advanced modeling and simulation software. The acquisition expands Precise Systems’ Interactive Training & Simulation capabilities and advances its strategy of accelerating technology innovation to deliver scalable solutions that enhance warfighter readiness and mission effectiveness.

Founded in 1989, Ternion develops commercial off-the-shelf and custom simulations for aerospace, defense and transportation organizations worldwide. The company is the creator of FLAMES, a flexible simulation framework used to develop composable constructive and virtual simulations and enable interfaces across live, virtual and constructive environments. Ternion’s solutions support a wide range of applications, including command and control training, mission planning and rehearsal, systems engineering, test and evaluation, experimentation and analysis.

“Ternion brings exceptional technology, deep modeling and simulation expertise, and a strong record of delivering reliable solutions for complex mission requirements,” said Scott Pfister, chief executive officer and president of Precise Systems. “The addition of the Ternion team and the FLAMES platform will help us accelerate technology innovation, shorten the path from concept to mission application, and better prepare our customers for increasingly dynamic operating environments.”

The acquisition creates new opportunities to combine Ternion’s simulation technologies with Precise Systems’ capabilities in advanced engineering, digital transformation, mission systems, software development and interactive training. By bringing these complementary capabilities together, Precise Systems will be able to accelerate the development, integration and deployment of innovative training, experimentation and decision-support solutions across the Department of Defense and allied missions, according to the company.

The combination will also support faster prototyping, more efficient testing and evaluation, and greater interoperability across live, virtual and constructive environments. These expanded capabilities will help customers assess emerging technologies, explore complex mission scenarios and transition effective solutions into operational use more rapidly.

Ternion’s Huntsville operations will expand Precise Systems’ presence within one of the nation’s leading defense and aerospace technology communities. Precise Systems will continue investing in Ternion’s Huntsville-based team, advancing the capabilities and reach of the FLAMES product family, and creating new opportunities for collaboration and technology development across the combined organization.

“Joining Precise Systems marks an exciting new chapter for Ternion,” said Brad Spearing, president, Ternion, “Precise brings the scale, complementary capabilities and customer relationships needed to accelerate innovation and expand the reach of our technology while preserving the agility, technical rigor and customer focus that have defined Ternion for more than three decades. We look forward to what our combined teams will accomplish.”

Bluestone Investment Partners made a strategic investment in Precise Systems in 2023 to support the company’s continued growth. Since then, Bluestone and Precise have worked together to expand the company through organic growth, innovative solution development and targeted acquisitions that strengthen Precise Systems’ ability to address evolving customer needs. The acquisition of Ternion represents the latest step in that strategy and further positions Precise Systems to accelerate technology innovation across its expanding portfolio of mission-focused capabilities.
