MapR Technologies targets live streaming decision support needs of the federal government

MapRMapR Technologies, Inc. of San Jose, CA announced on March 3 the expansion of its federal operations with the opening of offices in McLean, Virginia and the appointment of Doug Natal as federal vice president and general manager. The new offices will focus on serving government IT program needs by enabling agencies to harness the power of big data, including live streaming decision support.

MapR named Natal, former Oracle-Taleo, VeriSign, Crossmatch and EMC executive, to lead its expanded federal operations.  He brings nearly 30 years of experience helping the federal government with sensitive IT programs in the civilian, DOD and intelligence communities.

The government is collecting an enormous amount of data to determine the best course of action to benefit society, including cyber security, logistics, weather modeling, war-gaming, user authentication and the spread of disease. The MapR Converged Data Platform, including new global event streaming capabilities in MapR Streams, is uniquely architected to enable organizations to extract real-time intelligence from data to help make decisive, actionable decisions that improve results.

“MapR delivers ground breaking technology that leverages the true power of big data to provide a faster response to changing situations in military operations and the challenges we see in everyday civilian life here at home,” said Natal. “The government deserves the best technology, and we are aggressively expanding and hiring to help get the message out.”

MapR works closely with its established partners, such as AWS, Cisco, Google, HPE, Microsoft, SAP, and Teradata, to help government agencies process, analyze, and make decisions on data in real-time. MapR provides the industry’s only converged data platform that integrates the power of Hadoop and Spark with global event streaming, real-time database capabilities, and enterprise storage, enabling customers to harness the enormous power of their data.

Frank Mitchell, director of cloud computing and chief technology strategist at Leidos said, “MapR provides a solution for addressing the challenges associated with managing real-time data streams on a global scale.  Data downtime and delays could be disastrous and the MapR Platform is uniquely architected to provide the required agility, reliability and performance to enable federal agencies to quickly make critical decisions based on information received.”
