DARPA schedules AIQ Proposers Day
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Information Innovation Office (I2O) is sponsoring a Proposers Day to provide information to potential proposers on the objectives of the anticipated Artificial Intelligence Quantified (AIQ) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The AIQ Proposers Day will be held on June 14.
The AIQ program will develop technology to assess and understand the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) to enable guaranteed performance. The program will test the hypothesis that mathematical methods combined with advances in measurement and modeling will allow guaranteed quantification of generative AI capabilities. Specifically, the program will address three capability levels:
1) specific problem level, which considers mapping between individual inputs and outputs, 2) classes of problem level, which considers collections of inputs and associated outputs, and 3) natural class level, which considers which inputs are well-behaved with respect to the outputs via choice of architecture and/or data, aiming to address the quantification and assessment challenges at each level.
The program has two technical areas (TAs). The goal of TA1 is to provide rigorous foundations for understanding and guaranteeing capabilities across levels; teams proposing for TA1 are expected to be led by individuals with deep technical expertise, such as pure or applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, or statistics, and demonstrate relevance to AI. The goal of TA2 is to develop methods for evaluating AI models, integrating TA1 results and providing empirical results at scale using appropriate research datasets. Teams proposing for TA2 are expected to comprise computational, cognitive, and/or behavioral scientists with expertise in AI evaluation.
The purpose of the Proposers Day is to outline the AIQ program’s technical goals and challenges, promote an understanding of the BAA proposal requirements, and provide an opportunity for teaming. In addition, the Proposers Day will familiarize participants with DARPA’s plans for maximizing the program impact in the defense and civilian sectors and expected program collaboration with other Government agencies or civilian organizations.
