On May 14, the U.S. Army posted a call for participation in two task forces for the Tactical Microgrid Standard (TMS). Note that responses are due by 3:00 p.m. Eastern on May 16.
Combat Capabilities Development Center (DEVCOM) Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Center (C5ISR Center) is issuing this Special Notice to announce a call for participation in two task forces for the TMS, also known as MIL-STD-3071. The Cybersecurity Proposal Task Force will address Work Request 2025-01 to improve cybersecurity in TMS. The Revision Task Force will address Work Request 2025-02 to improve clarity, backwards compatibility, and existing features in the standard.
Work Request 2025-01 – Cybersecurity Proposal Task Force Purpose: Work Request 2025-1 proposes additions to the TMS Appendix C, Cybersecurity, targeted for completion in September 2025. This work request proposes content for the cybersecurity requirements of the TMS standard and will consider such topics as how DDS security integrates with the TMS data model, requirements for hardware selection, and baseline settings for common applications. While they will not be required for all TMS implementations in the near future, these additions may be required by acquisitions programs.
A TMS Cybersecurity Proposal Task Force (PTF) is being assembled to complete this work request. Participants will be tasked with reviewing and providing input on the proposed implementation and documentation. Participation is open to anyone with a deep understanding of DDS architecture, a working understanding of the TMS data model, and an interest in developing the DDS Security requirements for TMS. This is an opportunity for individuals and companies with a vested interest in TMS to contribute to the development of the TMS cybersecurity requirements.
Work Request 2025-2 proposes updates to the TMS document, targeted for completion in September 2025. This work request proposes changes to the TMS standard document to address editorial issues, minor technical issues, improved type extensibility, support administrative URLs, enhance selected existing features, and add the ability to represent non-TMS devices.
A TMS Revision Task Force (RTF) is being assembled to complete this work request. Participants will be tasked with reviewing and providing input on the proposed updates to TMS. Participation is open to anyone with a deep understanding of TMS, such as implementation developers. This is an opportunity for individuals and companies with a vested interest in TMS to contribute to its maintenance and growth.
