Aquia names co-founder Chris Hughes president and CEO

Aquia Inc., a cloud and cybersecurity digital services firm, announced on August 22 a strategic realignment of its leadership team. Aquia empowers mission owners in the U.S. government and public sector to secure the digital transformation.

Chris Hughes, Aquia co-founder and current president, assumes the role of chief executive officer (CEO). Concurrently, David Maskeroni, Aquia’s founding CEO, transitions to chief revenue officer (CRO). The realignment will position Aquia to accelerate its growth trajectory and scale its operations more efficiently.

Hughes, a former U.S. Air Force cybersecurity specialist and federal civil servant, will leverage his deep expertise in cybersecurity and business strategy to guide Aquia’s overall vision and day-to-day operations as president and CEO. In the meantime, Maskeroni, a former U.S. Army captain and senior leader within the federal government, will capitalize on his years of experience in high-pressure, mission-critical environments to bring a more hands-on approach to spearheading the company’s revenue growth initiatives as CRO.

“I’m incredibly humbled to have this opportunity at Aquia’s current stage of growth and maturity,” said Hughes. “I look forward to building on all of our existing foundational success and momentum, and continuing to be a premier digital services team serving our government customers and industry partners.”

Leveraging their complementary strengths and longstanding commitment to collaborative decision-making, both leaders will continue to work in lockstep alongside fellow co-founder John Sasser. This unified leadership approach ensures that all three will continue to play crucial roles in steering Aquia’s strategic direction.

“This realignment allows us to leverage our individual strengths more effectively as we enter our next phase of growth,” said Maskeroni. “As a relay record holder at my alma mater, I’m always ready to pass the baton. After growing Aquia to nearly 60 employees and averaging ~215% YoY growth, I’m ready to pass that baton to Chris. Chris’s deep technical expertise positions him perfectly to lead our overall operations. Meanwhile, this transition enables me to focus on driving sustainable growth for Aquia and expanding our footprint within government support services.”
