The Honorable L. Roger Mason, Jr. was sworn in as the 20th director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) on Monday, August 17, 2026. Dr. Mason has an extensive background in the aerospace defense industry, most recently serving as the chief growth officer at V2X.
“It is an honor to serve the nation as director of the NRO and to support the team’s mission of using the vantage point of space to promote our national security,” Dr. Mason said. “We will continue to advance the legacy of innovation the NRO has built over its 65-year history – investing in our workforce, building partnerships, and using the latest technology to expand our capabilities.”
The director of the NRO provides direction, guidance, and oversight over all matters pertaining to the NRO and executes other authorities specifically delegated by the Secretary of War and the Director of National Intelligence.
