On July 22, Type One Ventures, a venture capital firm investing in multi-stage space, artificial intelligence, and deep technology companies, announced the appointment of Omar Pimentel as Director of Frontier Strategy. A specialist at the intersection of commercial space, national security, and emerging technologies, Pimentel will lead the firm’s government and strategic ecosystem relations, and platform and portfolio support. The announcement was made by Type One Ventures Co-Founder and Managing Partner Abdo John Hajj.
Hajj stated, “Omar brings a rare combination of experience across government, public policy, and innovation funding that is exceptionally well suited to investing in the critical frontier technologies shaping the future. His deep understanding of how emerging technologies move from research and government support to commercial scale provides a valuable perspective for identifying transformative opportunities. Omar will strengthen our teams efforts across critical frontier technologies, helping deepen our expertise and expand our ability to identify and support the next generation of category-defining companies. I look forward to working with him.”
In addition to the above-mentioned responsibilities, Pimentel will contribute to firm-wide strategy and represent Type One through thought leadership, media, and industry forums, bringing deep national security domain expertise across the defense, space, and intelligence communities.
Pimentel said, “I look forward to joining the Type One team and advancing the firms next phase of growth. My priorities will be expanding our global network across public and private markets, strengthening strategic partnerships across government and defense, and helping our portfolio companies position themselves to win in some of the worlds most critical and rapidly evolving markets.”
Most recently, Pimentel served as policy and strategy lead and program manager for the Defense Innovation Unit’s Space Portfolio. Prior to DIU, he served at NASA Headquarters’ Office of Technology Policy and Strategy and in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he advised on higher education, armed services, foreign affairs, and appropriations.
