UTC Aerospace Systems and Selex ES plan to jointly develop the Tactical Synthetic Aperture Radar (TacSTAR) reconnaissance system, a long-range synthetic aperture radar system designed for overland and maritime reconnaissance and surveillance. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp.

UTC Aerospace System builds intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems for space, air and land applications. The company’s DB-110 EO/IR reconnaissance system is used worldwide on tactical jets, maritime patrol aircraft and business jets.

Kevin Raftery, vice-president ISR & Space Systems, UTC Aerospace Systems, said, “This agreement with Selex, with their active electronically scanned antenna (AESA) radar technology, will provide an all-weather system that complements the DB-110 reconnaissance system. More than a dozen countries operate our DB-110 recce pod and can integrate the TacSAR pod seamlessly into their existing operations using the same aircraft interfaces, real-time data links and intelligence exploitation systems.”

Selex ES, a Finmeccanica company, is a supplier of electronic and information solutions for defense, aerospace, space, security, high-integrity surveillance, network management, information security and mission-essential services. Selex ES radar systems are used for fire control and surveillance systems in a broad range of aircraft.

UTC Aerospace Systems designs, manufactures and services integrated systems and components for the aerospace and defense industries. UTC Aerospace Systems supports a global customer base with significant worldwide manufacturing and customer service facilities.
