Senate confirms Susan Gordon as PDDNI

On August 4, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats issued a statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Susan Gordon to be principal deputy director of national intelligence (PDDNI).

I am pleased to announce that the Senate confirmed Susan Gordon yesterday to be the fifth Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence.

In addition to her nearly three decades of intelligence experience, Ms. Gordon brings a passion and appreciation for the women and men of the world’s finest intelligence enterprise who serve our nation selflessly each and every day at a time of great challenge.

Ms. Gordon’s experience and abilities will be invaluable to us at the ODNI as the Intelligence Community is challenged each day to be our best as we continue to provide decision-makers with an intelligence advantage to keep our nation secure from the many threats we face and in identifying opportunities to act before events dictate.

I thank the Senate for its support for Ms. Gordon’s nomination, especially SSCI Chairman Richard Burr and Vice Chairman Mark Warner.  Their commitment to ensuring the IC has the best leaders in place at a time of great national security threats is crucial.  Congressional oversight of intelligence is not only essential in our democracy but also important to the effective and efficient operations of our Intelligence Community.
