A Democratic congressman from Florida, Rep. Alan Grayson, has introduced legislation that would extend until 2030 the time period to be covered by the United States Space Protection Strategy.

The Space Protection Program has been jointly funded by the Air Force and the National Reconnaissance Office, America’s spy satellite agency. It is designed to prevent competition among nations in the exploitation of space.

Grayson’s legislation, H.R. 4702, has been referred to both the House Armed Services Committee and the House Intelligence Committee.

The measure, which was introduced on May 21, currently has no cosponsors.
