Openet chooses VoltDB to help modernize telecommunications service providers

VoltDB VoltDB announced on April 2 that it has entered into an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Openet, a global provider of real-time network transaction management software, serving many of the world’s largest communications service providers.

VoltDB, the world’s fastest operational database, will be available as an integrated function within Openet’s Framework Platform providing enhanced deployment options within virtualized environments.

Cost pressure in emerging markets, the drive toward Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-defined Networks (SDN), combined with rapid growth in handset sales present challenges for the global telecommunications industry.

Openet’s ability to meet those demands with solutions that are highly elastic and easily virtualized requires a state-of-the-art database built for speed, real-time, in-memory analytics and transactional decision making.

“The manner in which mobile data is consumed and monetized continues to evolve, and we are constantly honing our solutions to help the world’s leading service providers adapt,” said Joe Hogan, chief technology officer at Openet. “Our next generation Framework Platform for virtualized environments delivers an unprecedented ability to manage resources, present users with highly personalized offers, and quickly set up new services.”

The unique combination of a high-speed operational database with in-memory analytics capabilities found in VoltDB 4.0 supports the Openet Framework Platform by providing a cloud-deployable database that does not sacrifice data accuracy, reliability, flexibility or performance, while lowering total cost of ownership for Openet’s customers. Virtualized deployments of real-time high performance Openet solutions will be enhanced by the availability of immediate in-memory operational database interactions and analytics based on specific user, time of day, account privileges, and network congestion, among other variables.

“The mobile space may be the best example of how much untapped value there is to be derived from the increasing volume and velocity of data,” said VoltDB’s CEO, Bruce Reading. “Vendors seek new ways to manage that data and, more importantly, extract intelligence that will help them to capitalize on it. Openet is using VoltDB to give its service provider customers the power to gain actionable real-time insights into their fast-growing networks. It’s the ideal application for VoltDB’s cloud-friendly database.”
