NGA posts RFI for high density pixel level processing

On September 28, the National Geospatial-Intelligence agency posted a request for information for high density pixel level processing (HM0476-17-High_Pixel_Level_Processing). Responses are due no later than 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time on October 30.

The National Geospatial-lntelligence Agency (NGA) is seeking information on the state of the art of processing solutions for large volumes of high frame rate focal plane array data.

Background and Scope:

Current data processing technologies are capable of receiving and processing raw photo-electron outputs from pixels arrayed in high sensitivity focal planes.  NGA is requesting information about commercially available processors and emerging processing technology capable of processing large volumes of photo-electron data at high frame rates.

Approaches to high volume, high data rate pixel processing include single instruction multi-data (SIMD) and multiple instruction multi-data (MIMD).  For example, high density SIMD processing, available commercially in GPUs and multi-core processors, can rapidly execute a large number of repetitive, complex tasks on incoming data and perform data reduction into various formats.  NGA is interested in affordable high volume/high data rate MIMD or SIMD processors that have nonproprietary development environments and/or application programming interfaces, and can ingest large volumes of raw photo-electrons from highly sensitive detectors.  Small form factor processors are of particular interest.
