Meltwater, a provider of online intelligence solutions delivering Big Data insight, announced on May 21 its acquisition of Canadian startup Strategic Planner, an easy-to-use platform that helps businesses make better decisions by delivering market and competitive insights.

The acquisition, Meltwater’s seventh in five years, aims to harness respective product, data and team synergies for future product development.

By aggregating social media, news and other online content about companies, Strategic Planner derives important trends aimed at leading informed business decisions by providing an understanding of critical information about their customer’s market and competitors. This perfectly aligns with Meltwater’s mission to deliver business insights, and a combined technology serves to accelerate innovative product development.

“From the moment we first met the Strategic Planner team it was clear we shared a product vision and that their talent and ambition would align perfectly to help drive our product development and innovation initiatives,” said Jorn Lyseggen, Meltwater CEO and founder. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the Meltwater team!”

“From our first meeting with Meltwater, we realized that we shared a common vision and saw the tremendous potential in joining forces,” says Michel, Strategic Planner’s founder and CEO. “We are truly excited about the opportunity in becoming a leader in data mining for competitive intelligence.”

In addition to the acquisition of IP and technology, Meltwater is pleased to welcome founder and CEO, Michel Besner, and key architect, Iannick Brouillette, to the Meltwater product team in San Francisco, CA.
