ManTech names Richard Wagner president of its Mission, Cyber & Intelligence Solutions Group

ManTech International Corporation of Herndon, VA announced on November 29 that Richard “Rick” Wagner has been promoted to president of its Mission, Cyber & Intelligence Solutions (MCIS) Group. In this role, Wagner will lead the company’s mission-critical support for the U.S. intelligence community.

Wagner’s appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2018, following the retirement of L. William “Bill” Varner, who joined ManTech as president of the MCIS Group in 2009.

“We thank Bill Varner for his many years’ service in advancing ManTech’s reputation as the premier provider of technology solutions for the nation’s most important customers – government agencies charged with safeguarding national and homeland security,” said George Pedersen, ManTech chairman and CEO. “Putting Rick Wagner at the helm of MCIS represents a natural progression for a leader who has consistently surpassed expectations. We have every confidence that Rick will help take MCIS to the next level of performance as ManTech marks its 50th year in operation and makes ready for the next half century.”

Wagner has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of MCIS since 2016, responsible for leading day-to-day operations of one of ManTech’s two operating groups. Previously he led ManTech’s Advanced Technology Solutions business, guiding its success in cyber, mission IT and intelligence operations.

“Rick Wagner brings many valued attributes to his new role, but most important are his commitment to the customer mission and his ability to meet their technology needs with speed, agility, security and reliability,” said Kevin Phillips, ManTech president and COO. “This ability to listen to the customer and to deliver the full range of cyber, enterprise IT, mission IT, and support of critical intelligence community missions is at the heart of MCIS’s contribution to our market-leading momentum.”

“It is an honor to take on this new responsibility, especially within a company whose mission I deeply respect,” Wagner said. “Protecting this great country of ours is a passion at ManTech and I look forward to continuing to work with the outstanding people of MCIS to provide the best services and solutions to our customers’ missions.”

Before joining ManTech, Wagner was chief strategy officer at TASC, Inc., leading merger and acquisition activity including due diligence and integration for the merger with Engility Holdings, Inc. During his 16 years at TASC, he rose from program manager/systems engineer to senior vice president of the company’s Defense Group. Earlier in his career, Wagner held management positions at Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, and worked as a software engineer and project manager for the Naval Surface Warfare Center.
