Leidos appoints Jerald Howe Jr. as EVP and general counsel

Leidos of Reston, VA announced on June 8 that Jerald Howe Jr. will join the company as executive vice president and general counsel.

Howe brings more than 30 years of leadership experience at global organizations in the aerospace, defense, and intelligence industries. Most recently, he served as partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP (Fried Frank), where he advised and represented clients in government contracts litigation, investigations and bid protests, as well as mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and private equity transactions in the aerospace & defense industry. Prior to Fried Frank, Howe served as senior vice president and general counsel at TASC, where he oversaw the company’s legal affairs, corporate development and M&A, ethics and compliance programs, government relations and security.

Previously, he was owner and principal of consulting firm InSequitur LLC, executive vice president of the Olive Group, and senior vice president and general counsel of Veridian Corporation. Howe began his career as an associate and partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP and served as judicial clerk to Judge George E. MacKinnon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.  Howe attended Princeton, Oxford and Harvard Law School.

“Jerry is an accomplished legal mind and a proven leader who brings substantial expertise in the aerospace, defense and intelligence sectors,” said Leidos Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Roger Krone. “His broad skillset and keen understanding of the federal contracting arena will be an ideal addition to our talented leadership team.”

Effective July 15, Vincent Maffeo will retire as executive vice president and general counsel of Leidos. Maffeo was instrumental in providing guidance and legal expertise through the company’s evolution, most notably the separation of then-Science Applications International Corporation and the recent merger with Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business in 2016. He will continue to support the company as a consultant.

“Vince provided the strong leadership that Leidos needed through several key transitions that enabled the company to grow to the global science and technology leader it is today,” added Krone.  “We thank him for his outstanding service and dedication to Leidos, and wish him well in his retirement.”
