Intelligence squadron building in Birmingham, AL, to undergo major renovation

Alabama - 117th Air Refueling WingThe Alabama Air National Guard plans to award a small business set-aside contract to a company that can oversee the complete renovation of the 117th Intelligence Squadron Building in Birmingham, AL.

The renovation will include a Secure Compartmentalized Information Facility (SCIF) that will be sufficiently large to accommodate up to 100 intelligence data terminals and enough workstations to handle the daily production of highly classified information. In addition, there must be sufficient space for training, anti-terrorism, force protection, security measures, alarm systems, and perimeter fencing for the existing 12,900-squate-foot building and an additional 10,000 square feet of new construction.

The National Guard estimates the cost of this renovation project at between $5 million and $10 million, says a presolicitation notice issued on March 26.

Interested small businesses must respond by May 21.

A pre-proposal conference and site visit in Birmingham, AL, is scheduled on or about April 22.

It is estimated that the construction project will require 630 days to complete, says the posted notice.
