The U.S. military requires Information Technology (IT) support to help run the communications and information systems which support the intelligence and detention operations at the U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo, Cuba.

The chosen vendor will be responsible for planning, acquisition, engineering, installation, maintenance, management, operations and disposition for the hardware and software at “Gitmo” that support the intelligence and detention missions, says a notice posted by the U.S. Army Contracting Command on Feb. 7.

The Government expects to release its formal solicitation for this support contract on approximately Feb. 28, says the notice.

A one-day site visit for one representative per company to the Gitmo facilities is planned for March 11. “The registration for the site visit is now closed,” says the Army’s notice.

The incumbent vendor under the current contract to provide this technical support is Viatech, Inc., of Eatontown, NJ, an engineering services company.

“The successful contractor will provide all personnel and services necessary to provide Information Technology Support (IT) and Support Services for on-site hardware, software, and technical support to JTF-GTMO and all U.S. units performing duty at United States Naval Base Guantanamo, Cuba, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF),” says the notice.

The Army envisions a single firm fixed price contract for the IT support services, with a one-year base period and four one-year option periods.
