Gryphon Technologies adds Jerry Punderson as COO

Gryphon Technologies announced on August 22 that Jerry Punderson, former senior executive at Naval Sea Systems Command and former senior vice president of defense and intelligence (D&IC) at the Professional Services Council (PSC), has joined the team as chief operating officer.

At Gryphon, Punderson will oversee the execution and management of all Gryphon government contracts. This includes ensuring that all performance, quality, schedule, and cost control expectations are met.

“The defense sector is a heavily regulated industry and having Jerry’s leadership and expertise will help us navigate our future. We are all pleased he chose to come to Gryphon,” said P.J. Braden, Gryphon’s CEO and founder.

As the senior contracting official at NAVSEA, Punderson oversaw a multibillion-dollar portfolio including the nation’s most complex shipbuilding and weapons systems procurement programs.  He began his civil service career in 1981 as an intern for the Naval Electronic Systems Command and subsequently joined the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in a contracting position.  He joined NAVSEA in 1985 as a contract negotiator and in 2001 he was named director of the Undersea Systems Contracts Division.  In 2004 he became a member of the Senior Executive Service and appointed as NAVSEA’s director of contracts (SEA-02).  He is a recipient of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, the Presidential Rank Award, and numerous Special Act awards.

After leaving the Navy Punderson was the senior vice president of D&IC at the PSC; he was the lead for activities relating to the intelligence community, the military services, and the defense agencies. The D&IC is the principal venue for PSC members to interface with key government officials, provide input on acquisition policy issues, and shape upcoming procurements in the defense and intelligence sector.

“Jerry brings to Gryphon a great amount of government contracting knowledge at a time when Gryphon’s growth is especially vibrant.  Having him on our team will certainly help navigate our position as a premier engineering services company,” said Braden.
