Army I2WD posts RFI

On August 30, the U.S. Army posted a request for information on radar identification of biological or chemical aircraft, rocket, artillery, mortar, (RAM) and UAS threats (Solicitation Number: W56KGU-17-X-A123). Responses are due within 30 days.

The US Army, Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD), is seeking information on radar systems ability to detect and identify aircraft, rocket, artillery, mortar or UAS threats designed for dispersing biological or chemical weapons. Responses to this RFI should include capabilities to both identify the types of threats of interest as well as confirming that the target was not one of those threats (i.e. detecting a threat was an High Explosive round).

Responders are requested to provide:

  1. Description of radar system(s) that have been or could be utilized to detect or discount a chemical / biological RAM threat including relevant parameters that enable detection such as: • Waveforms used • Frequency band • Bandwidth • Dwell time • Etc.  2. Algorithms that have been developed or concepts to identify that a RAM target is a chemical / biological threat or an HE round for radar systems  3. Any data to support claims identifying the threat type as C/B or HE  4. Any of the above as related to a UAS-delivered chemical or biological threat 5. Any of the above as relevant to an aircraft-released (i.e. crop duster) chemical or biological threat
