Alion Science and Technology promotes Bruce Samuelsen to chief operating officer

bruce-samuelsenAlion Science and Technology, based in McLean, VA, announced on November 23 that Bruce Samuelsen, a long-time company employee who has served in several leadership roles, has been named chief operating officer.

Samuelsen joined Alion in 2005 as part of the company’s acquisition of John J. McMullen Associates, one of the leading ship design and engineering companies in the U.S. At Alion, he has led both technical and business development organizations and, most recently was named special advisor to CEO Bahman Atefi, providing key support and counsel on matters across the company.

“Bruce has consistently been a trusted voice who balances extensive technical knowledge with outstanding business instincts,” said Bahman Atefi, Alion’s chief executive officer. “His knowledge of our markets, as well as how our solutions can best support our customers, give us a great competitive advantage. He has helped us break into new markets around the world, and his insight and experience are essential to helping Alion grow substantially over the next few years.”

Samuelsen earned an MBA from George Mason University and a BE in naval architecture from the State University of New York Maritime College.
