Airborne surveillance over Colombia to be supplied by Airtec, Inc., of Maryland

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Counter Networks and Illicit Trafficking project office plans to award a contract to Airtec, Inc., of California, MD, to support the U.S. Southern Command’s requirement for airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) over the nation of Colombia.

“The [company-owned/company-operated] aircraft shall be used in support of the USSOUTHCOM efforts to integrate, develop, and test the FALCON-I system,” explains a presolicitation notice issued on April 2. “The FALCOM-I system is primarily used for [foliage penetrating] surveillance and reconnaissance, human activity detection, target identification, and geospatial collection.”

Airtec will supply one modified Bombardier DHC-8/200 multu-sensor aircraft with foliage penetrating Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and GFP ground processing systems.

Airtec will also provide vthe necessary pilots, operators and analysts, says the notice, and will maintain a Forward Operating Location (FOL) in Bogota, Colombia.
